"Clean ports, clean sea" is a project within the initiative "Together against marine litter" co-financed by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, which members of the Society implemented in 2020. and 2021. Through the project and cleaning of local ports on the islands of Olib, Silba and Ist, the removal of waste and the education of islanders about the dangers of waste in the sea were approached. The ports on these islands are of great importance to the local population. The amounts of waste in them are noticeable, mostly due to their position because of which they are open to winds. These ports are also important for nature conservation as they are located in areas that are part of the Natura 2000 ecological network (HR3000053 Silba - submarine; HR3000052 Olib - submarine; HR3000063 Passage between Zapuntel and Ist). Areas such as ports can unfortunately become waste sources themselves....
"Fishing for ghost nets" is a project within the initiative "Together against marine litter" co-financed by the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, which members of the Society implemented in 2020 and 2021. Attractive fishing positions are located near the valuable coralligenous habitat and entail a higher frequency of loss of fishing gear. The negative impact of lost fishing gear is known: entanglement and destruction of marine organisms, covering, congestion and tearing of demersal organisms, destruction of habitats, entanglement of divers. In the area of project implementation, i.e. the north of the Zadar aquatorial, there are several areas of exceptional biological importance that are part of the Natura 2000 ecological network (HR3000054 Premuda - outside; HR3000060 Sea around the island of Škard; HR3000061 Shoals around Maslinjak, Vodenjak, Kamenjak; , HR3000053 Silba - submarine; HR3000052 Olib - submarine; HR3000063 Passage between Zapuntel and Ist). The time required to correctly detect...
Cleaning of Čuška dumboka bay in Telašćica Nature Park after the great flood in 2017 is the name of the project which, in addition to cleaning the seabed of Čuška dumboka bay, included conducting educational workshops at the Elementary School "Petar Lorini" in Sali and an exhibition of photographs in Sali library. Given the really long set of big and little things that we have successfully brought to an end at the end of the project period, let's start from the beginning! The beginning of the whole idea of the need for the action of cleaning the seabed of the Čuška dumboka bay came from the sad scenes that we believe are still remembered by most. It was September 11, 2017… The day when so much rain fell on the entire Croatian coast that the water, creating rapids, carried everything in front of it for hours, flooding many homes, basements,...
Silba shines with clean shorelines! is the name of an educational-research project that the Society, in cooperation with all interested members of the general public and its project partners, carried out on the island of Silba. First of all, we consider it important to point out that all the achieved goals are the result of the will, desire, work and togetherness of all participants in this project. Through a series of activities, guided by the phrase : "All for one, one for all!", that we have diligently done, we have achieved success that we still remember fondly! But now let's start from the beginning! We decided on carrying out double cleaning actions and removing waste from the seabed in the three bays on the island of Silba and monitoring it. The purpose was to determine and compare the amount of waste on the seabed that is present before the nautical...
Educational research project „ Light up the Silba underwater“ was conducted on the occasion of World Animal Protection Day and World Habitat Protection Day on Silba, marking it through research activities of inventarization of the infralittoral zone of Silbas Reefs with the members of BIUS Association and testing the “squid – pop” methodology for measuring the rate of predation. We also conducted an educational workshop for Primary School pupils on Silba on biodiversity led by students from the Marine Group from BIUS . In an interactive way, we educated the students about various but common species in the Adriatic with which they may have come in contact but didn't know much about. Also, we passed on the knowledge of potential threats to these organisms in the form of climate change, pollution, invasive species and other. Squid-pop preparation After that, at dusk we opened a underwater photography exhibit called “Light and...
